Our community group has evolved and after many months of consideration, we’ve finally settled on a new name….that is easier to say haha! The consensus on our chosen name is that the word “initiative” encompasses what the group has evolved into and is now doing. We hope that the “Gallatown Community Initiative” will increasingly empower you to express ideas publicly and start new initiatives.
Transition
The administration remains GGCG (Gallatown Gala & Community Group) to avoid confusion outside of the group i.e. banking, funders and partners. The key change will be banking. After this is actioned we will update our Facebook pages/groups/chats.
This website is also to have a new domain (address). Steps have been taken to make that happen.
Galas

My family enjoyed our most recent Gala. I remember the tarantula display and the kids getting to sit in a Police car – activate the lights! The community has many fun memories from those events and removing “Gala” from our title took a lot of discussion. It isn’t our way of saying there will never be a Gala though – this remains in the hands of the community.
We’ve settled on an approach we hope will inspire action and participation to make a gala happen.
Board Member Roles
The group’s board can no longer be expected to plan/run a Gala. Responsibilities that didn’t exist before are now filling the year – including more regular events and community gatherings. The committee agreed that the group’s primary purpose is no longer to offer a Gala. This decision supported the name change.
Families in our community make wonderful memories all year round even without the Gala – we have Cairinne MacDonald to thank for much of that!
Gala Steering Group
The committee agreed that for a Gala to happen there would need to be a Gala Steering Group. We also agreed that the board’s role would be to advise the steering group – beginning with a guide on how to plan and run a Gala. This is a pending task.
